In the before picture, you can see the sharp, fine, polished line at the edge of the raised gold centre area. In the after picture, this sharp edging has been destroyed. The line is soft, feels almost fuzzy. Not a good idea, but not a bad one either. The Cape Cod polishing cloths are relatively effective, but on closer inspection they are far too expensive for what they can do. Better use a good chrome or stainless steel polish from car accessories and a decent lint-free cloth.
I use Cape Cods and like them as they are non-aggressive so I can't over-polish too much on my SS and gold watch cases. Even (gasp!) on GS zaratsu case surfaces. While good on acrylic crystals, they are also good for a nice brush up on the mineral crystals--like the G-shock non-sapphire crystals.
Rolex is a very easy watch to polish. The Cape Cod cloth will really take out the superficial swirly‘s but it will not be the same as a jeweler using a rouge and rouge wheel. I do not tape off the brush finish but I refinish the brush after I .

Nice fix. I've used Cape Cod cloths successfully on both my Rolex and Tudor. Very easy and effective, just take a bit of elbow grease. Both of mine look new again!
