Yes, there are independent watchmakers that can order parts directly from Rolex, unfortunately they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Rolex is making it very hard to keep parts accounts open for the independents. With the local AD, sure, they warranty their work for a year, but if something happens I can only go back to them! I would say in almost all cases, (not for refub, etc) send to an RSC. There are probably a lot more reasons to use an RSC over a local AD and their certified watch makers. IMHO. My current Rolex Watchmaker works at the AD, he told me that he only gets 35% of the labor ticket and nothing on parts when watches are brought in retail for repair, he actually makes more doing side work plus he has full access for Rolex parts.
Honestly? You can get a Rolex serviced at a reliable local watchmaker. Part of the cache is that the movements are easy to work on and maintain. Issue is: not many watchmakers have access to Rolex parts as they’re very strict who gets parts and who doesn’t. Of course there are some available, but question is: what will end up in your watch: new parts, refurbished parts or something found somewhere and you might end up with a Frankenstein.

Yup, many watchmakers have their networks despite not having a parts account, you just need to ask if they “can get” Rolex parts. If my watchmaker can’t get a part (not just for Rolex but vintage stuff), he lets me know and I can hunt it down which I have done many times.
About 15 years ago, a number of sought-after Swiss watch brands, including Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, began denying access to spare parts to some certified independent watch. To get Rolex parts, you must be an authorized service center. If a Rolex has any modifications, Rolex will not work on it. They are sending my watch to Rolex for an overhaul..expected price tag to be between 0 and 0 and .These centers use genuine Rolex parts and follow the brand’s strict servicing guidelines to ensure your timepiece receives the highest level of care. Benefits of using an official Rolex Service Center: Guaranteed use of genuine Rolex parts; Watchmakers trained directly by Rolex; Access to the latest Rolex servicing tools and techniques
